a cute little black jumper always makes me feel perky

And yes, even at my age, I sometimes feel perky. "My age". Whatever.

I'm tired of reading about that healthy glow, and how you loose it as you get older, because you don't produce enough collagen. And then all the articles on how to get that glow by buying these products, that just sting your face, and make you redder, not that healthy pink of "oh so long ago". And then of course, if I had a BILLION bucks, I could go do laser, and that would just solve it all. And I would do that "mommy" tuck Angelina did.

But I don't.

So then I read an article about how Scarlett Johansson doesn't use moisturizer, because someone told her you need to let your face do it's own thing. And I almost buy this dribble until I remember she's only 25, and I also had amazing skin when I was 25, but now I'm not, and now I have that red stuff, and dull stuff, and oily stuff all at the same time, which is some kind of practical joke by some man, or jealous woman, and then I start thinking God really must be a man, cause if god was a woman, she would not do that to us when we were getting old, she would not let us have zits past 35! And by the way, if you don't use moisturizer, your face will get dried out and fall off eventually. Unless you live in the tropics. And trust me L.A/NY is not the tropics.

Oops I rambled. I think I need to stop reading about beauty products and what others do, and of course it doesn't help coming in from a day at the beach and being all red faced, with my dark roots growing in, and my blond hair turning granny yellow. And I really need to file my nails. Don't you hate it when your nails get all sharp and catch on your clothes, and you can't find a file?

But hey, doesn't this outfit look cute?

Happy Summer!!!!

What about Farrah!

Today I'm feeling a little on the quiet side. The drizzle that persists, puts me in a very solemn place.

It could also be the loss of 2 pop icons of my generation, First, Farrah Fawcett, and then Michael Jackson. Poor Farrah, struggled so much to keep her fame, going out with a documentary to remind everyone.. and on her final day, her final curtain call, she gets trumped by Michael. What Irony.

If he hadn't died on the same day, Farrah would be featured prominent on the cover of every website today. But instead, she is a sideline, not a headline. And nothing to say Michael doesn't deserve it. He does. He was an important part of our culture, he was after all the "king of Pop". But let us not forget, Farrah was the queen of pop culture too. She rained in the late 70's. Every girl tried to do a Farrah do. Every boy had her poster on their wall. And she was the first actress to break out of the sex icon to serious actress role.

To Farrah and Michael,

I hope you have both found peace.

Dujour Magazine – computer candy & more... YUM!

I love twitter.. And not so much for tweeting, but for the wonderful finds that come through daily! I had no idea that it could introduce me to new websites, new blogs, yummy cupcakes, and even a new magazine?? yes! Dujour Magazine!! An Art book in a magazine.

And, Dujour Mag's tweets, always serve up something yummy. So when I recently saw some links to their subscriptions for online or print editions, I had to take further investigation. Their website is fun, and offers up information on vintage and handmade items sold either on their own websites, or on Etsy. And their posts are yummy too, like Saturday's "You Strawberry Fool"! I can't wait to make that for my british girlfriend, Victoria! I'll be sure to spike it!

Dujour is a bi-monthly PRINT & DIGITAL magazine. And I dove in and subscribed to the digital version.. but damn, just looking at it makes me want to order the print version, even if it's fairly pricey at $36. But it's pricey because it's a limited edition of only 1000 copies per issue! So exclusive!!! And supposedly it's packaged in beautiful custom wrapping, with each copy containing its limited edition number printed inside. Errrr. I might have to do it?!

Here's a sneak peak of the issue:

I'll be sure to let you know if and when I get my print version!

an afternoon with the husband...

Our choice of entertainment?

The Hangover!!! OMG. I have to say, this was hands down the funniest film of the year for me! As I was watching it, I looked around, and noticed a few husbands, trying to hold back their guffous, while an uptight wife sat next to him with tight lips. And of course, there is a lot to be shameful of... humping of tigers, displaced babies, vomit, drunken debauchery, strippers, nudity, profanity, whores, Jagermeister shots, roofies, inappropriate jokes, and donkeys... oh no, that was a different movie.

"It's on the corner of 'get a map' and 'f*** off.'"

God I loved that!

I am of the female species that totally gets the male species, and am glad to be laughing at their side (at and with) at the absurdity of their choices and behavior. And this lovely piece of film put it all out there.

I really would go see it again now, if I wasn't so damn busy. I told my husband last night, I loved the part when the chineese mob boss, grabs his weener, and says "suck my chineese c**k".

I'm not going to give you a full review.. that's not what I do here. And I'm not going to give you the details. Hey, if you want to read a great post about it, check out "pop-couture". She nailed it on the head! LOL.

If you haven't seen it, go see it, laugh loud. And tell me what you think! If you don't like it.. well then.. sorry. We just can't hang out and party. This is the kind of make or break thing for me. I can not imagine being that husband sitting next to that uptight wife who just didn't get it.

"Remember what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That s***'ll come back with you."

"Since everything is in our heads, we had better not lose them"

-Coco Chanel

Today, I shall highlight the aforementioned, Daryl Kerrigan, and her sexy, strong, rocker-chic elegant, and yet delicate fashions for women. I can not imagine someone with a weak charachter wearing her clothes. They say it's not the clothes that wear the woman, but the woman who wears the clothes... and its true. Have you ever tried to wear something that just wasn't you? Your personality is stronger than a garmet. But find the garmet that matches you, and you have a match that is a perfect fit of your personality and the design.

I do ramble sometimes, don't I?

Last week I posted a piece (Kim Gordon tagged and autographed a bunch of 90's vintage Daryl K pieces from her personal collection, and Urban Outfitters has put them up on eBay)... and then I ran into Daryl the next day. And she promised another tennis rematch soon.

I mentioned this in my last piece, but Daryl still has that shop on 21 Bond street, nyc. It never went away. If you live in NY, or are traveling, you need to see it.

Daryl has two lines, Daryl K and Kerrigan. I don't know, but I love them both. I'm tempted to do one of my superimposed heads over her models... but I'm too busy this week. It is the last week of school for the boys, and I'll be running around getting things done, before we take off for the month of July. Don't worry, I'll actually be able to post more in July, and read more blogs. I'm having some down time!!

So here are just a sample of my favorite looks from each line:

Daryl Kicked my Ass in Tennis!

Annies eye on Kim and Daryl

So this post is a regurgitation, or share post from one of my favorite bloggers, Annie Spandex! Her original post is here.

I love Kim Gordon, I love Daryl K Vintage. I also think Daryl is pretty cool too. When I moved to NYC in the early 90's, I coveted Daryl K skinny pants. I had a few pairs. There was her shop on Bond, just off the Bowery, but also one over in the East Village that I used to go to, and get pants on sale. And of course, I knew she clothed the ultra cool Kim Gordon. The look was/is a very cool, strong girl, rocker with attitude. I wish I still had a pair of those pants, but at some point I stopped squeezing myself into them, and let them go.

So time went on, I got married, then had kids, and finally moved to Brooklyn. I forgot about those Daryl K Pants. But to my surprise, when my boys entered Pre-K, one of them was in class with a little girl, whose mommies name was Daryl Kerrigan. I think for the most part, I was the only one at the time who knew who she was. Being the clothes whore that I was and am, and never forgetting a face... I caught on. But don't worry, I didn't embarrass her and ask her for a pair of those cool skinny pants. Life went on, and I started to wonder whatever happened to the Daryl K line.

More recently I stumbled across this terrific article (forget where) all about designers in the 90's who get bought up by big corporations and spit them out, and take their name, and then kill the label. I'm not an expert on this, so you should read more about it if your interested. But the upshot is, that Daryl went through some hell in regards to her label, but always perseveres, and keeps doing her thing.

These are some photos from her Fall 09 Collection. Um... my birthday is in October....

So, annie posted this cool bit of information! Kim Gordon tagged and autographed a bunch of 90's vintage Daryl K pieces from her personal collection, and Urban Outfitters has put them up on eBay (all proceeds benefiting Kim's charity of choice, Community Resources for People with Autism). Quite a few pieces have been worn on stage. So cool! Somehow I don't think I would fit into Kim's size. I'm a bit, too tall, and not quite so skinny. But I sure would covet the BLACK SATIN STRAIGHT LEG PANTS!!

Some other very cool news for you Sonic Youth fans. They are playing here in July!!

some of my favorite Sonic Youth Videos:

So now, your asking yourself.. um what's up with the Title: Daryl kicked my ass in Tennis?? Well of course I finally met Daryl, as our children have been in the same class, and we have some of the same friends... and I found out she likes to play tennis as much as I do. So we played. And as the title suggests, she did just that! She plays as hard as she designs! Fierce and formidable.

Cheers! Have a happy (hopefully rain free) week!!

a little bit of inspiration goes a long way...

Today, while the rain and drizzle and gloom settle over me like a wool blanket that I'm itching to get off... I look towards some inspiration.

Alice Neel has always been my artist to go to, when I need a refresher in why I am an artist.

This is one of my favorite paintings by her:

The great lady herself:

Read more about alice here.

I'm a creature of habit, and I tend to only feel the inspiration to paint when it's sunny, and the lighting is right. I thrived in California. But New York has been a bit of a struggle for me. My last painting, done a few years ago, has been nudging me to move forward again (when the web design slows down) to get the brushes out!

Here are The kids, from a few years back:

This is what I started to work on last summer. Funny, I guess this summer I will continue on... Winter solace.. doesn't seem to apply to me!

what a week! now it's time to slip into something sexy

Forgive me fellow bloggers it's been too long since my last post!

I've been mad, mad, mad working to finish this website I was working on! I kept to my deadline, and launched it Friday. Absolutely nothing to do with Fashion and Style. A soccer website!!! LOL [www.gjoa.org]

On to today's treat. I have to direct you over to Frou Frou Fashionista. If you havn't peaked before, it's a must, and if you have, its worth another look. A few days ago a post caught my eye because the images are just so damn beautiful. Gorgeous photography, and gorgeous lingerie. Go look to see the full show!

Rockin' my 100th post, and bashing Kelly!

Ok.. that's silly. But I'm in a silly mood.

So memorial day weekend, my friends and I went out to Hamptonland... land of the loonies... the east coast Beverly Hills, and we're invited to attend a party of the infamous Kelly Bensimone. Kelly of many things, but most recently of the notoriously bitchy "the real housewives of NY". Which they are not, btw. Anyhow... I digress.

Point is we were invited. And the question remains.. did we go?

You tell me.

And now to the more important news! This marks my 100th Post!!!! I'm so excited I'm drinking a glass of wine to celebrate, and the kids are not even tucked in!! Hmmm.

Thank you all for being such great blog buddies, and commenting, and commending, and giving me such glowing praise!

Big Kiss!!!

[okay, must make disclaimer here. Did not end up going... lovely photo is one of my many photoshop skills. Notice a lot them on my blog, yeah? LOL!!! ]
